NIDA Open Day

On Sat 14 May 2016,
NIDA
(National Institute of Dramatic Art)
in Sydney, Australia,
had their biennial Open Day,
to attract prospective new students.

I went along to have a look,
as I intend to do some
weekend courses
in the future.

This was the scene along the
front of the building.

This was before the doors were
opened, early on.
Later, there were quite a few people
lined up along the front,
and on the red carpet, to go in.

The Nancy Fairfax Foyer

This is in the front of the building.
The round shaped structure
to the right,
is the outside of the
Parade Theatre.

Tours were conducted from here,
around the NIDA campus,
one of which I went on,
showcasing specialist areas
and classes in action.

The Parade Theatre

This is where the talks were held,
which explained about each
of the different course structures.

The Atrium

This is where students
were practicing their
aerial Staging work.

Videos

Check out some videos that I took
of the students' aerial Staging work -

1. Star Jumps
2. Spins
3. Rolls
4. Spiderman
5. Floating
6. Action Sequence

"Mums and Bubs Fashion Show"

I just happened to be at the
Westfield Shopping Centre
at Eastgardens in Sydney
(New South Wales, Australia),
this morning, when they were having
this fashion show, of the latest
in clothing style on offer
at shops in the centre.

It is all part of
"The Eastgardens Story."

Coogee Beach Rockpool

It was a lovely sunny day
today, so I had a snack
and sat down at the beach
watching the waves.

Next summer,
I will buy a
swimming costume
and go for a swim
in this rockpool,
which is at the south end
of Coogee Beach  :)
(Sydney, New South Wales,
Australia)

The building above it,
is the Coogee Surf Life
Savers Club.

Anzac Day 2016 (100th year)

Tomorrow, 25 April, will be the 100th year since
the landing of soldiers from the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps,
onto the beach at Gallipoli, Turkey, in World War One,
where they suffered heavy losses, against extreme obstacles.

Ahead of the annual services and march,
in and around Sydney
and the rest of Australia tomorrow,
I went to a poignant ceremony
held by the Coogee Surf Life Savers Club
at Coogee Beach this morning.

There were bagpipe players, poignant poems,
and a beautiful rendition of a song written and sung
by a girl named Taylor,
who accompanied that with the keyboard.

Wreaths were laid at the statue,
followed by a minute's silence
as everyone looked towards the sea.
And then the "Last Post",
a short traditional bugle piece,
was played.

Classic and Wooden Boat Festival - Sydney 2016

This weekend, the Classic and Wooden Boat Festival is being held in Sydney,
Australia, at the Australian National Maritime Museum at Pyrmont,
and I went along yesterday (Fri 15 April 2016) to have a look.

There were 100 boats on display, from the smallest row boat to the tallest ship.

Also, on offer, were various items of entertainment, and displays open
in the museum.

Here is a window into that world  -

The Australian National
Maritime Museum,
and the Cape Bowling Green
Lighthouse (1874).

Tall Ship HMB Endeavour,
which is a replica of
Captain James Cook's vessel.

Ship's cannons.

Museum employees
singing sea shanties (songs).

Tall Ship James Craig,
a fully restored 1874 Barque.

The Carpentaria.

Submarine HMAS Onslow.

This is me,
having entered a competition
for a free trip on a tall ship.

Dr Chris Brown

This is for all those in Australia
who watch the television series,
"Bondi Vet" and "The Living Room,"
and know of Dr Chris Brown.

I just happened to be walking around
Bondi Junction (Sydney,
New South Wales, Australia)
and look where I walked past!

I thought I recognized the
veterinary hospital from one of the
shows. I had to take a step back
and take a photo.
