Screenplay Format #17 - Map of Locations - Part 2


Continuing with, setting up the File    6-NAME-Map of Locations
 
 
 
2.  MAP
 
eg.
 






































 
 
To set the map up, follow these steps –
 
For a map  -
            -  that you already have
            -  from the internet
            -  that you draw yourself from scratch
 
            Either / or, depending on the situation -
            -  USE AS IS
            -  ALTER / DRAW FROM IT
 
            Following, if necessary, (see below) –
            -  INTERNET INSTRUCTIONS
            -  COPYING THE IMAGE TO A DOCUMENT
            -  SETTING UP THE IMAGE
            -  DRAWING INSTRUCTIONS
 
 
 
          
INTERNET INSTRUCTIONS
 
OPEN  -  your Internet Browser
IN THE SEARCH BAR  -  TYPE IN    the name of the map that you are looking for,
                                          and the word,    Images
                                                      eg.  Map of Townsville, QLD Australia - Images 
            -  PRESS    ENTER
               A New Page will appear
Along and near the top of the Page, you should see a bar of words, such –
            ALL      IMAGES      VIDEOS      MAPS      NEWS      SHOPPING
 
            -  LEFT CLICK    on the word    IMAGES
               A Page will open with different Images of that particular map
 
At the end of that bar, there should be the word    Filter
           
            -  LEFT CLICK    on the word    Filter
               Another bar will appear below this one, with the words, such -
                        Image size      Color      Type      Layout      People      Date      License
 
            -  LEFT CLICK    on the word    License
               A Menu will appear, with different options for end use
            -  LEFT CLICK    which one suits your end use,
               and places you within the correct copyright boundary of your situation
                        eg.  For my situation of an adapted screenplay to be used in a commercial feature film,
                               with the Image to be altered, I chose –
                                                Free to modify, share and use commercially
               A Page of the Images which fall under this category will appear
           
            Choose which map you like the most
            -  PLACE    the Cursor over the Map, so that it is a hand
            -  RIGHT CLICK    on it
               A Menu will come up
            -  LEFT CLICK    on    Save Image As
               A    Save As    Dialogue Box will appear
                        -  Choose the File destination
                                    eg.    This PC  -  Documents  -  MAIN SCREENPLAY FOLDER
                        -  Rename the Image, if necessary
                                    eg.    Map of Townsville
                        -  Left Click the    SAVE    button in the Bottom Right Corner
               The Image is Saved onto your computer
 
            -  Left Click the    X    in the Top Right Corner of the computer screen,
               to    CLOSE    the Internet Browser
 
 

 
COPYING THE IMAGE TO A DOCUMENT
 
USING THE EXISTING MAP AS IS –
            -  COPY & PASTE    the map to the File    6-NAME-Map of Locations
 
ALTERING / DRAWING FROM  THE EXISTING MAP -
            -  OPEN    a new    Word Document
                        -  SAVE AS   the Document,
                           to the MAIN SCREENPLAY FOLDER with all the other Files
                        -  NAME    it,
                                    eg.    Map of Townsville – Draft
                        -  SAVE    the Document
            -  COPY & PASTE    the Map to this new Word Document










 

           









SETTING UP THE IMAGE
 
Positioning the Image on the Page
            -  LEFT CLICK    on the Map
               A    FRAME    will appear around it,
 
eg.



















     And a    Picture Tools Tab    will appear on the Ribbon,
               containing the words    Picture Format
            -  LEFT CLICK    on the words    Picture Format
               The Picture Format Ribbon will appear
            -  GO TO    the    Arrange Section
            -  LEFT CLICK    on the    Wrap Text Icon
               The Wrap Text Menu will appear
            -  LEFT CLICK    on    Through
               This enables the Image to move freely around the Page
 
            To Move the Image
            -  PLACE    the    CURSOR    on the    Image
               It should be a    SINGLE HEADED ARROW
               If not already also, a    CROSS OF 2 DOUBLE HEADED ARROWS,    then,
            -  LEFT CLICK
            -  HOLD LEFT CLICK & MOVE    the    CURSOR
               The Image will move around the Page
               When the Image is in the desired position,
            -  UNHOLD LEFT CLICK
            To Remove the Frame,
            -  LEFT CLICK    on any    White Space    of the Page
 
 
Sizing the Image
            -  PLACE    the    CURSOR    on the    BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER CIRCLE OF THE FRAME,
               until it is a    DIAGONAL TWO HEADED ARROW
            -  LEFT CLICK & HOLD   
               and    MOVE   the    CURSOR     DOWN & TO THE RIGHT    of the Page
            -  UNHOLD    the    LEFT CLICK
               This will increase its size proportionately
 
eg.










 
 





Cropping the Image
            In the    Picture Format Ribbon -
            -  GO TO    the    Size Section
            -  LEFT CLICK    on the    Crop Icon Image    (not the word)
               Black Lines    will appear around the    Frame
            -  To    SELECT    parts of the Image that you do not want –
                        -  MOVE    the    CURSOR    onto a    Black Line    
                           until it becomes a    Black Line    itself
                        -  LEFT CLICK & HOLD    and also    MOVE    the    CURSOR    to the desired position
                        -  UNHOLD    the    LEFT CLICK
            When you have finished    SELECTING –
                        -  LEFT CLICK    on any    White Space    of the Page
                           The    SELECTED    part of the Image will be removed

Placing a Border Around the Image
            In the Picture Format Ribbon –
            For Line Weight (Thickness) -
            -  GO TO    the    Picture Styles Section
            -  LEFT CLICK    on the    Picture Border Icon Words
               A Menu will come down
            -  PLACE    the    CURSOR    on the    Weight    option
               A Menu of    Lines    will appear
            -  MOVE    the    CURSOR    to the    Thickness    of    Line    that you want
            -  LEFT CLICK    on it
               That    Thickness    will be applied
            For Line Colour –
            -  GO TO    the    Picture Styles Section
            -  LEFT CLICK    on the    Picture Border Icon Words
               A Menu will come down
            -  LEFT CLICK    on the    Colour Square    that you want
               For more advanced colour options –
                        -  LEFT CLICK    More Outline Colors
                        -  LEFT CLICK    either / or
                                    -  the    STANDARD    Tab
                                    -  the    CUSTOM    Tab
                        Choose the colour that you want
                        -  LEFT CLICK    OK
               The    Colour    will be applied
            -  LEFT CLICK    on any    White Space    on the Page
               The    Frame    and the    Picture Format Ribbon    will be removed
 
eg.       Border Line Colour -    Black, Text 1
            Border Line Weight -    3/4 pt










 
 
 





To Delete an Image
            -  LEFT CLICK    on the    Image    to make the    FRAME    appear around it
            -  CUT    it from the Page          
 
 
 
When all the Alterations have been made
            -  COPY & PASTE    the Image    to the File –
                        6-NAME-Map of Locations
           
           
 
 
DRAWING INSTRUCTIONS
 
DRAWING A MAP FROM THE EXISTING MAP –
            -  OPEN    a new    Word Document
            -  SAVE AS   the Document,
               to the MAIN SCREENPLAY FOLDER with all the other Files
            -  NAME    it,
                        eg.    Map of Townsville – Draft
            -  SAVE    the Document
 
  -  SET UP    the Map Image    on the Page    (see above)
            -  SIZE    the Image to fit as much of the Page as possible    (see above),
               between the Margins,
               to see enough detail for your purpose
 
            -  TRACE    the    Lines    over the    Map Image,,
               FOLLOWING    the    DRAWING INSTRUCTIONS    (see below)
 
DRAWING AN ORIGINAL MAP –
  -  OPEN    a new    Word Document
            -  SAVE AS   the Document,
               to the MAIN SCREENPLAY FOLDER with all the other Files
            -  NAME    it,
                        eg.    Map of Townsville – Draft
            -  SAVE    the Document
 
            This only requires the    Blank Page    as the    Base,    so,.
            -  DRAW    the    Lines    directly on to the Page,
               where you feel inspired to do so,
               FOLLOWING    the    DRAWING INSTRUCTIONS    (see below)
           
 
              
DRAWING METHOD
This is the Method that I have used for Drawing the Lines in the Map,
as it was the easiest for me to understand, and gives a clear picture of the Locations.
However, you can use whatever Method you like, if you know of others.
 
OVERALL
 
The idea was to    Draw a Line    for each easy to manage    Section    of the    Map.
This produced a    Number    of    Drawings (Images),
which had to be    Grouped    together
to form    One    Image.
 
BASIC TECHNIQUES
 
1.  Freeform Lines
 
            -  LEFT CLICK    on the    Insert Tab    in the    Ribbon
               The    Insert Ribbon    will appear
            -  GO TO    the    Illustrations Section
            -  LEFT CLICK    on the    Shapes Icon
               A Menu of Shapes will appear
            -  GO TO    the    Lines Section
            -  LEFT CLICK    on the    Freeform Scribble







    -  MOVE    the    CURSOR    onto the Page
                 It will become a    BLACK CROSS    which Marks the beginning of the Line

            
            



            -  PLACE    the    BLACK CROSS    where you want the Line to    START
            -  LEFT CLICK & HOLD 
            -  MOVE    the    CURSOR    to form your Line
               It will change into a    PENCIL             
                        -  NOT MOVING    the Cursor    PAUSES    the Drawing Motion
                        -  UNHOLDING    the    LEFT CLICK,
                           FINALISES    the Shape,
                           a    FRAME    will appear around it,
                           and a    Drawing Tools Tab    will appear on the Ribbon,
                           with the words    Shape Format    underneath it
                        -  LEFT CLICK    on the words    Shape Format
                           The    Shape Format Ribbon    appears           
            To change the Colour of the Line -
            In the Shape Format Ribbon –
                        -  GO TO    the    Shape Styles Section
                        -  LEFT CLICK    on the words    Shape Outline
                           A Menu will appear
                        -  LEFT CLICK    on the    Colour Square    of your choice
       For more advanced colour options –
                                    -  LEFT CLICK    More Outline Colors
                                    -  LEFT CLICK    either / or
                                                -  the    STANDARD    Tab
                                                -  the    CUSTOM    Tab
                                    Choose the colour that you want
                                    LEFT CLICK    OK
                           That Colour will be applied 
            To change the Weight (Thidkness) of the Line -
            In the Shape Format Ribbon –
                        -  GO TO    the    Shape Styles Section
                        -  LEFT CLICK    on the words    Shape Outline
                           A Menu will appear
                        -  MOVE    the    CURSOR    down to    Weight
                           A Secondary Menu will appear
                        -  MOVE    the Cursor across and down to the    Line Weight    that you want
                        -  LEFT CLICK    on it
                           That Line Weight will be applied
            To remove the Frame -
                        -  LEFT CLICK    on any    White Space    on the Page
                           The    FRAME    will disappear
 
eg.        Line Colour -    Black, Text 1
             Line Weight -    1 pt
 






                       
2.  Straight Lines 
 
            -  LEFT CLICK    on the    Insert Tab    in the    Ribbon
               The    Insert Ribbon    will appear
            -  GO TO    the    Illustrations Section
            -  LEFT CLICK    on the    Shapes Icon
               A Menu of Shapes will appear
            -  GO TO    the    Lines Section
            -  LEFT CLICK    on the    Line







            -  MOVE    the    CURSOR    onto the Page
               It will become a    BLACK CROSS    which Marks the beginning of the Line







            -  PLACE    the    BLACK CROSS    where you want the Line to    START
            -  LEFT CLICK & HOLD 
            -  MOVE    the    CURSOR    to where you want the Line to    END                      
                        -  NOT MOVING    the Cursor    PAUSES    the Drawing Motion
                        -  UNHOLDING    the    LEFT CLICK,
                           FINALISES    the Shape,
                           a    CIRCLE    will appear at each    END
                           and a    Drawing Tools Tab    will appear on the Ribbon,
                           with the words    Shape Format    underneath it
                        -  LEFT CLICK    on the words    Shape Format
                           The    Shape Format Ribbon    appears           
            To change the Colour of the Line -
            In the Shape Format Ribbon –
                        -  GO TO    the    Shape Styles Section
                        -  LEFT CLICK    on the words    Shape Outline
                           A Menu will appear
                        -  LEFT CLICK    on the    Colour Square    of your choice
       For more advanced colour options –
                                    -  LEFT CLICK    More Outline Colors
                                    -  LEFT CLICK    either / or

3.  To Move an Image
 
            -  LEFT CLICK    on the    Image    to make the    FRAME    appear around it
               The    Picture Tools Tab    will appear above the    Ribbon
            -  LEFT CLICK    on the words    Picture Format    below 
               The    Picture Format Ribbon    appears
               In the    Arrange    Section –
            -  LEFT CLICK    on the    Wrap Text Icon
               A Menu appears
            -  LEFT CLICK    on    Through
            The    Image    can now be moved around the Page -
               When the    FRAME    is around it,
            -  Place the    CURSOR    on the    Image   
               until it is a    CROSS OF 2 DOUBLE-HEADED ARROWS
            -  LEFT CLICK & HOLD
            -  MOVE    the    CURSOR    and the Image will    MOVE
            When it is where you want it,
            -  UNHOLD LEFT CLICK
                       
 
4.  To Delete an Image
 
            -  LEFT CLICK    on the    Image    to make the    FRAME    appear around it
            -  CUT    it from the Page          
 
 
5.  Putting Images Together
 
            -  DRAW    the first    Line
 
eg.






 

            -  DRAW    the next    Line    in its place
 
eg.









 
 
 
Continue in this way, until you have all the Lines that you need, in the correct Places.
 
 
6.  Grouping Images
 
All the completed    Drawings (Images),
should be    Grouped    together,
so that they can be moved easily as    One.
 
To do this –
            Select All Images -
            -  LEFT CLICK    directly on    One Line
            -  PRESS & HOLD    the    Ctrl    Button
            -  LEFT CLICK    directly on each Other Line
            -  UNPRESS    the    Ctrl    Button
            Sometimes an Image can be Selected
            by Left Clicking in the area inside where the Frame will appear, but sometimes not,
            so it is best to Click directly on each Line.

            Two Tabs will have appeared along the Top of the Ribbon –
            -  The Drawing Tools Tab
            -  The Picture Tools Tab
            -  LEFT CLICK    on either / or, the words –
                        -  Shape Format
                        -  Picture Format
            The respective Ribbon appears
            In the    Arrange    Section,
            -  LEFT CLICK    on the    Group Icon

 





            A small Menu will appear
            -  LEFT CLICK    Group
            To Ungroup
            -  LEFT CLICK    Ungroup
           
The Group of Images is now    One,    and can be Moved easily,    as One.

 
OTHER TECHNIQUES
 
7.  Multi-coloured Border
 
If you need to use a border that has different colours along it,
instead of    Placing a Border Around the Image,    as above,
you can use the –
            Straight Lines Method, above, such –
                        -  Make a Straight Line Image
                           for each Section of the Border
                           that has a different colour
                        -  Group them together, as above

INSERTING TEXT
 
You should now have your Map, consisting of all the required Lines.
Text can also be inserted in the Image.
 
To do this –
            -  LEFT CLICK    on the    Image
               The Frame will appear around it,
               and the    Drawing Tools Tab    and    Picture Tools Tab   
               will appear along the Top of the Ribbon
            -  LEFT CLICK    on either / or, the words –
                        -  Shape Format
                        -  Picture Format
               The respective Ribbon will appear
               in the    Arrangement    Section
            -  LEFT CLICK    on the    Wrap Text Icon
               A Menu will appear
            -  LEFT CLICK    on    Behind Text
               This places the Image    Behind    any Text that you insert,
               otherwise it would cover the Text, and the Text would not be seen
            -  LEFT CLICK    on any free    White Space    on the    Page
               The    FRAME    will disappear
 
            -  PLACE    the    CURSOR    anywhere in or around the Image
               where it does not become a    DOUBLE-HEADED CROSS
            -  LEFT CLICK    on it
               The    CURSOR    becomes a    Flashing Line,
               and can now be    MOVED    around the    IMAGE,    by using the –
                        -  Space Bar
                        -  Arrow Buttons
            -  MOVE    the    CURSOR    to where you want to TYPE
            -  TYPE    the required    TEXT
 
eg.  Here I have indicated the Position of some Locations -









 
 

When all the Text is typed in and correct, the Text should be Fixed to the Whole Image,
making the Image    One.
 
 
To Fix the Text to the Image –
            Using the Snip & Sketch App -
                        -  LEFT CLICK    the    START Icon    on your computer Task Bar
                        -  SCROLL DOWN    to    Snip & Sketch
                        -  LEFT CLICK    on    Snip & Sketch
                        The    Snip & Sketch Box    appears
                        -  LEFT CLICK    on the    New Button
                        The Screen will change to a Grey colour,
                        and the Cursor will change to a White Cross
                        -  MOVE    the    CURSOR    to the Top Left Corner of the Border of the Image
                        -  LEFT CLICK & HOLD
                        -  MOVE    the    CURSOR    to the Bottom Right Corner of the Border of the Image
                        -  UNHOLD LEFT CLICK
                        The    Snip & Sketch Box    appears again,
                        with the Copied Image
                        -  LEFT CLICK    the    Save As Icon    in the Top Bar
                        A    Save As Box    will appear
                        -  CHOOSE    a    DESTINATION    for the Image File -
                           This should be in the MAIN SCREENPLAY FOLDER
                        -  TYPE    in a    NEW NAME    for the Image File, if necessary
                        -  LEFT CLICK    the    SAVE    Button   
                        -  CLOSE    the    Snip & Sketch Box
        
   
The Combined Image is now Saved.in the Main Screenplay Folder
-  COPY & PASTE    it to the File -
                        6-NAME-Map of Locations
