CENTRE LINE
To make the Centre Line, follow these steps –
1.
Gridlines
- LEFT CLICK
on View at the Top of the Ribbon
to open up the VIEW RIBBON
- In the
Show Section –
- LEFT CLICK
in the Gridlines box,
so that there is a Tick
inside it
This will bring up a pattern of Gridlines on
the document page / s
eg.
- MOVE the
CURSOR onto the Page
It will become a BLACK CROSS which Marks the beginning of the Line
-
PLACE the BLACK CROSS where you want the Line to START
- LEFT CLICK & HOLD
- MOVE
the CURSOR to where you want the Line to END
- NOT MOVING
the Cursor PAUSES the Drawing Motion
- UNHOLDING
the LEFT CLICK,
FINALISES
the Shape,
a
CIRCLE will appear at each END
and a
Drawing Tools Tab will appear
on the Ribbon,
with the words Shape Format underneath it
- LEFT CLICK
on the words Shape Format
The Shape Format Ribbon appears
To
change the Colour of the Line -
In
the Shape Format Ribbon –
- GO TO
the Shape Styles Section
- LEFT CLICK
on the words Shape Outline
A Menu will appear
- LEFT CLICK
on the Colour Square of your choice
For more advanced
colour options –
- LEFT CLICK
More Outline Colors
- LEFT CLICK
either / or
- the
STANDARD Tab
- the
CUSTOM Tab
Choose
the colour that you want
- LEFT CLICK
OK
That Colour will be applied
To
change the Weight (Thickness) of the Line -
In the Shape Format Ribbon –
- GO TO
the Shape Styles Section
- LEFT CLICK
on the words Shape Outline
A Menu will appear

That Line Weight will be applied
To

on any White Space on the Page
The
CIRCLES will disappear
eg.
Line Colour -
Black
Line Weight - 1½
pt
Place the Centreline where it is most convenient for your
information,
and however Long
Down the Page, as required.
3.
Cross Members
At certain points, I placed
Cross Members to make it easier
to see between the Months.
eg.
This is achieved, by using the Same Method as above,
but placing the Line
Horizontally instead of Vertically.
There is a problem, though.
The
Lines will not Transfer Across to the
Next Page,
So they have to be Drawn Up
in Each Page.
And they tend to jump around a bit.
So, they can become a bit unmanageable.
When all the Lines
are in their correct places,
you may choose to keep the Gridlines
in place, to help with aligning text.
4.
Removing the Gridlines
When the Gridlines
are no longer needed –
- LEFT CLICK
on View at the Top of the Ribbon
to open up the VIEW RIBBON
- In the
Show Section –
- LEFT CLICK
in the Gridlines box,
so that the Tick
inside it disappears
This will remove the pattern of Gridlines on
the document page / s
eg.
So, in the previous example, the Centre
Line and Cross Members would look like this –
eg.
-
CHECK that all the TEXT
is comfortably within the LEFT
HAND COLUMN
- TYPE IN
any Relevant Pieces of Information in the
RIGHT HAND COLUMN
ALIGNED
to their chronological place along the
TIMELINE
ALIGNED
1 OR SO TABS TO THE RIGHT of the
CENTRE LINE
eg. Betty
turns 18
-
REMOVE the GRID LINES
eg.
TIMEFRAME
From the Scene Time Line –
- DETERMINE
the START POINT in
TIME of the STORY
eg. 1900
- DETERMINE
the END POINT in
TIME of the STORY
eg. 1964
- TYPE these into the HEADING
eg.
