Mel's personal "Hacksaw Ridge"

(V)    Violence
(S)    Sexual references

What Desmond Doss did at Okinawa and on the battle field generally, is truly astounding.
It shows a spirit strong in faith, and also of mental and physical strength.
And he deserves this recognition.

So, why did Mel Gibson agree to make this film ?

Obviously,
to promote the concept of facing violence from others, not with violence.
And to show that there is another way.
But, it does require an unshakeable faith (or in other words, "trust")
that the true God will keep you safe.

I support this concept and what Desmond Doss did,
and Mel's promotion of this,
as I do not believe in cruelty.

So, what about Mel's personal feelings ?

Mel is coming from a place of deep grief.

He had a friend when he was about 12,
another boy about the same age.
This was at the time,
when our families would meet.

Bruce Davey,
his present business partner,
was also present,
but he was about 17.

Bruce took offence to Mel's friendship with this other boy,
and murdered this boy in front of Mel.
Mel grieved deeply, that he could not save his friend from Bruce,
and was deeply traumatised, and still is.
Bruce made Mel and I clean up this mess, literally.
(And people wonder why Mel and I are so stressed out)

Years later,
Mel was forced into the business situation with Bruce,
who continues to this day,
to hold this threat of violence over Mel,
and used it to sexually abuse him for many years,
and also take over control of Mel's company,
Icon Productions,
from his beginnings as the accountant.

So, you see, this is how it has been for us,
all this time.

Bruce is only allowing Mel to produce this faith based film,
because Bruce enjoys the violence.

Sad, but true.
